Look to the left of the sculpture of Senator Vance to see Charles Duncan McIver statue. This character was the founder and first president of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and is the only personwho appears in the capitol who wasn’t a military.
McIver and Edwin A Alderman were chosen by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction to house teacher institutes throughout the state, where schools dedicated to women took special prominence.
