Go down Boticas Street and go straight on until you arrive in a small square where two streets meet.
Here you can see the Hospital de San Ildefonso which attended to the poorest people of Zafra.
Ruy López de Segura, an eminence of the noble game of chess, was born and lived here. His "Book of the liberal invention and art of the game of chess", published in 1561, was one of the first books about chess published in Europe. Many consider him to be the first world champion of chess.
In this place there is a plaque which mentions Ruy López. In the top right hand corner you can see a figure. The name of this chess piece will open the way to the next step.
